Features of This Weekly Planner Template

This is a simple but effective weekly planner. It covers all 7 days of the week and features several customizable functions essential for your daily workflow.

Customize Your Increments, Start Time, and Start Day

At the top left of the spreadsheet, you'll see the current date. You can adjust date as needed. Below that, you can set your preferred scheduled start time, and the planner will automatically adjust your time slots based on your input.

It will even cut off automatically at the end of your day, no matter what time you choose to start.

Using the easy drop-down menus, you can also toggle between:

  • Monday start dates or Sunday start dates.
  • 15-minute, 30-minute, or 1-hour increments.

Once you've selected your preferences, your planner is ready to go!

How to Use the Weekly Planner Effectively

The weekly view is set up with days on the x-axis and times on the y-axis. To block off time, simply highlight the cells you want to change and click the paint bucket icon in the toolbar.

Pro Tip: Use color coding for different types of tasks (e.g., green for work, blue for family, yellow for self-care). When the week is over, you can highlight your color-coded cells, click the paint icon, and select "reset" to start fresh for the next week. This one-click reset keeps your planner clutter-free and ready for a new week in seconds.

I have also included a to-do checklist and a meal planner at the top right of the weekly tab to keep your tasks and nutrition in one central location. (If you're looking for a more complete food-tracking system, check out my Weekly Meal Planner Google Sheets Template for even more detail.)

Google Sheets Monthly Calendar Templates

Sometimes you need to see the big picture. That's why I've included 12 monthly schedule templates in this file. These calendars are designed to plan out your life for the next 365 days.

The best part? These calendars automatically update based on the date you set in your weekly planner. For example, if you set your start date to April 1st, 2026, the spreadsheet will automatically populate calendars for April 2026 through March 2027.

You can write your important events directly into the white boxes for a perfect reference to check before you fill out your weekly view.

Important Tips for Your Planner Template

  • Avoid Deleting Locked Cells: Some cells contain special formulas or conditional formatting that keep your planner "smart." If you get a warning pop-up when trying to edit a cell, click cancel to preserve the functionality.
  • Access Anywhere: When you're on the go, you can easily view or edit your planner using the Google Sheets app on your smartphone, or by logging into your Google account from any computer.

Google Sheets Template FAQs

You can use this in Excel, but just know that sometimes the formatting can look a little different in Excel vs. Google Sheets. To do this, once you make your Google Sheets Copy, click "File," then "Grab," then choose "Microsoft Excel."

If you would like to, you absolutely can! Put in any date you need in the top left corner of the weekly planner. If no other date is filled in, it defaults to the current date.

If you delete a formula or formatting that helps the weekly and monthly calendars work, you can always come back to your original email and make a new copy of your planners.

Yes! (I hope you do!) You can reset it weekly by clearing your task blocks or duplicating the tab for a fresh week. Many users create a new copy for each month or quarter to stay organized long term.

Yes. You can print any tab directly from Google Sheets by going to File > Print. I recommend adjusting the print settings to "Fit to width" so your weekly layout doesn't get cut off. For best results, print the weekly planner in landscape mode.

Yes, you can fully customize time blocks, color coding, task categories, and schedule increments (15-minute, 30-minute, or hourly). The template is designed to be flexible while still keeping its structure intact.

Yes, but editing is easier on desktop. You can view and update your planner using the Google Sheets app on iPhone or Android, but features like color coding, layout adjustments, and setup are much faster on a computer.

The layout is built to update based on the start date you choose. Once you set your date, the weekly and monthly views adjust automatically. You do not need to rebuild the file each week. However, your tasks and entries are not automatically cleared - you reset or duplicate the week manually.

What is the purpose of the top/first white cell in the monthly view?

    1. Leslie Lambert says:

Hi Sarah! Can you give me a cell name (A1, B3)? I'll be glad to check!

      1. In cell F5, in the spreadsheet for August 2025 (Friday August 1st), for example.

Ah, I see what you're saying! I just needed those lines of code in there for the calendars to function, but I can see how that's confusing. I just went in and hid those rows, so there's one less row per calendar entry, but you can use them all now. Thanks for the input!
