If you ever need a quick homemade snack to take to a party or potluck, you're going to love today's recipe!

Why You'll Love This Easy Dip

  • This cream cheese dip comes together in minutes with simple, staple ingredients you likely already have on hand - making it one of the easiest homemade recipes you'll ever try.
  • I purposely kept this recipe basic, without extra add-ins, because sometimes there's no need to reinvent the wheel. Simple flavors often make the best dips.
  • The finished dip is rich, fluffy, and sweet with a creamy, light texture that pairs perfectly with fresh fruit for a refreshing summer snack (just like my Strawberry Pretzel Salad Dip!)

Ingredients & Substitutions

For this dip, you'll only need 4 really basic ingredients...

ingredients for cream cheese fruit dip.
  • 8oz Cream Cheese - the star of the show! This gives the dip its rich taste, tang, and creaminess. You'll want the cream cheese to be room temperature for this recipe; this makes it softer and more mixable. If you'd like to lighten up the recipe a little bit, light cream cheese is totally fine to use!
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar - I use powdered sugar in this recipe because it dissolves perfectly in the dip. If you use something like granulated sugar, you're going to notice graininess. This makes the recipe smooth and adds the perfect subtle sweetness. If you want more flavor depth, you can use brown sugar (just know that you'll get that graininess I talked about). You can also use ½ cup of honey or stevia in place of the sugar.
  • ½ cup Heavy Cream - You'll want to make the cream cheese dip, well, dippable. Some kind of milk/cream is a must! It thins out this recipe enough to make it the perfect fruit dip. To make the recipe a little lighter, you can use half and half or even whole milk (just know that it won't be as rich).
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Optional Add-Ins

Want to jazz the flavor up even more? Try these add-ins!

  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • zest of an orange
  • zest of a lemon
  • 2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoon of any kind of jam or jelly
  • Sprinkles
  • Mini chocolate chips or cinnamon chips
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoon peanut butter

How to Make Sweet Cream Cheese Dip

There are really just two steps to making a super easy sweet cream cheese dip.

combining ingredients in a bowl with a mixer.
creamy dip in a glass bowl.

Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, add the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Using a hand mixer on low speed, begin blending until the sugar is mostly dissolved and the mixture starts to come together smoothly. This creates the sweet, creamy base for your dip.

Step 2: Add in the softened cream cheese and continue mixing on low speed until the ingredients are almost incorporated. Then, gradually increase the mixer speed to high and whip for about 30 seconds. This final burst of mixing adds air into the dip, giving it that fluffy, light texture that makes it so irresistible.

Cream Cheese Softening Tip

Soften your cream cheese using one of the following methods...

  • Lay out on the kitchen counter for 30 minutes to an hour.
  • Soak wrapped cream cheese in warm water for a few minutes.
  • Microwave cold cream cheese (sans wrapper) for 10 seconds.

Other Helpful Tips & Tricks

  • Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature when mixing. It will make your dip much smoother.
  • If you can, try to make this at least a few hours ahead of time. Giving the dip a few hours to mellow out in the fridge makes the vanilla flavor really pop.
  • LEFTOVERS: I recommend sealing your leftover dip in an airtight container to store in the fridge. This will keep in the refrigerator for 3-4 days after preparing.
  • This dip can also be frozen! Just prepare as directed above and freeze in a Ziploc bag for up to 6 months. All you need to do before serving is thaw completely in the fridge. This is a great dip to keep in the freezer for last-minute party appetizers. (One note: the dip might lose some of its fluffiness if freezing.)
  • To cut some of the fat out of your recipe, you can use reduced-fat cream cheese and either half & half or milk in place of the heavy cream. You can also use stevia instead of powdered sugar; just expect a little graininess from the stevia.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese room temperature
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, use a hand mixer on low speed to combine heavy cream, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar.
  • Add cream cheese. Mix on low until almost blended; slowly turn the mixer up to high speed, mixing at high speed for about 30 seconds. This will make the dip fluffy and light.
  • Serve as a dip with fresh fruit, sweet crackers, or cookies.

Notes

  • Use room temperature cream cheese for the smoothest, creamiest texture.
  • If possible, make ahead a few hours-the vanilla flavor develops beautifully as it chills.
  • Leftovers: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
  • Freezer option: Freeze in a Ziploc bag for up to 6 months. Thaw in the fridge before serving (note: dip may lose some fluffiness).
  • Lighten it up: Substitute reduced-fat cream cheese and half & half (or milk) for the heavy cream. Stevia can replace powdered sugar, though it may cause slight graininess.
