Pear Filling
46ozcanned sliced pears in heavy syrup(drained)
2teaspooncinnamon
2tablespoonlemon juice
Crumble Topping
¾cupsalted butter(melted; 1.5 sticks)
1 ½cuppacked light brown sugar
1cuprolled oats
¾cupall-purpose flour
1teaspoonground cinnamon
½cupcrushed pecans(optional)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 7x11" or 2-quart baking dish.
In your baking dish, mix together the drained pears, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and lemon juice.
In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, oats, flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and optional pecans. Stir until crumbly, like wet sand.
Scatter the topping over the apple filling without packing it down.
Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the filling bubbles around the edges and the topping is golden.
Cool for 15 to 20 minutes before serving.
Notes
Drain the canned pears well before adding them to the baking dish; do not add the extra syrup.
Use old-fashioned rolled oats for the best crumble texture.
Cover loosely with foil if browning too fast.
Keep the crumble topping loose instead of pressing it down.
