Why You'll Love This Easy Dip

The name of the game here is simple. It's so effortless to whip up this cream cheese fruit dip in a matter of minutes. It uses staple ingredients that you'll usually have on hand. For a homemade recipe, this is just so darn manageable!

You're going to find more complicated fruit dip recipes out there. I purposely kept this one basic, without too many added ingredients. Sometimes, there just isn't any point in reinventing (or sprucing up) the wheel.

With this cream cheese fruit dip recipe, you're going to get a rich & fluffy dip with a creamy, light texture and lots of sweetness. It's perfect to serve with your favorite fruits for a refreshing summer snack.

Ingredients & Substitutions

For this dip, you'll only need 4 really basic ingredients...

ingredients for cream cheese fruit dip.
  • Cream Cheese - the star of the show! This gives the dip its rich taste, tang, and creaminess. You'll want the cream cheese to be room temperature for this recipe; this makes it softer and more mixable. If you'd like to lighten up the recipe a little bit, light cream cheese is totally fine to use!
  • Powdered Sugar - I use powdered sugar in this recipe because it dissolves perfectly in the dip. If you use something like granulated sugar, you're going to notice graininess. This makes the recipe smooth and adds the perfect subtle sweetness. If you want more flavor depth, you can use brown sugar (just know that you'll get that graininess I talked about). You can also use ½ cup of honey or stevia in place of the sugar.
  • Heavy Cream - You'll want to make the cream cheese dip, well, dippable. Some kind of milk/cream is a must! It thins out this recipe enough to make it the perfect fruit dip. To make the recipe a little lighter, you can use half and half or even whole milk (just know that it won't be as rich).

Want to jazz the flavor up even more? Try these add-ins!

  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • zest of an orange
  • zest of a lemon
  • 2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoon of any kind of jam or jelly
  • Sprinkles
  • Mini chocolate chips or cinnamon chips
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoon peanut butter

Step-by-Step Instructions

There are really just two steps to making cream cheese fruit dip.

combining ingredients in a bowl with a mixer.

Step 1: In a large bowl, use a hand mixer on low speed to combine heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract.

Step 2: Add cream cheese. Mix on low until almost blended; slowly turn the mixer up to high speed, mixing at high speed for about 30 seconds. This will make the dip fluffy and light.

Cream Cheese Softening Tip

Soften your cream cheese using one of the following methods...

  • Lay on the kitchen counter for 30 minutes to an hour.
  • Soak wrapped cream cheese in warm water for a couple of minutes.
  • Microwave cold cream cheese for 10 seconds.

What to Serve with Your Dip

So fresh fruit's the obvious partner to this dip - but there really is so much more that can be served with it! I'd recommend the following...

  • Strawberries
  • Vanilla Wafers
  • Blackberries
  • Blueberries
  • Cherries
  • Pound Cake
  • Pears
  • Rice Krispie Treats
  • Raspberries
  • Pretzels
  • Apples
  • Pineapple
  • Grapes
  • Bananas
  • Graham Crackers
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies

Other Pro Tips

  • Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature when mixing. It will make your dip much smoother.
  • Try to make this one ahead of time. Giving the dip a few hours to mellow out in the fridge makes the vanilla flavor really pop.
  • This dip would make the perfect centerpiece of a sweet snack platter. You could include fruit kabobs, vanilla wafers, graham crackers, and even cookies to dip.

Recipe FAQs

Absolutely! I actually recommend making this recipe at least an hour or two ahead of time to let the flavors move and groove together. It can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. You can also freeze it in a Ziploc bag for up to 6 months.

You're going to see different variations on this recipe, but I tried to keep it as basic as possible. I include cream cheese, powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract.

To cut some of the fat out of your recipe, you can use reduced-fat cream cheese and either half & half or milk in place of the heavy cream. You can also use stevia instead of powdered sugar; just expect a little graininess from the stevia.

I recommend sealing your leftover dip in an airtight container to store in the fridge. This will keep in the refrigerator for 3-4 days after preparing.

This dip can also be frozen! Just prepare as directed above and freeze in a Ziploc bag for up to 6 months. All you need to do before serving is thaw completely in the fridge. This is a great dip to keep in the freezer for last-minute party appetizers. (One note: the dip might lose some of its fluffiness if freezing.)
