I've got another blast from the past for you guys today!
This was a DIY craft I originally made way back in 2015 for Emmie's Halloween class party favors. These Halloween treat bags were inspired by a pack of colored marshmallows I found at the grocery store one day. I had the fun idea of making cute goodie bags out of these that were actually really simple.
After a little bit of brainstorming, I thought to use icing piping bags to get that candy corn triangle shape. These bags are pretty easy to find at most grocery stores (I found mine at Walmart). Pair with this bag of colored marshmallows and white marshmallows, stack the colored layers in the bag to look like a candy corn, and you've got a really simple Halloween treat bag for class, dance, or even Halloween night parties!
The original post was a little outdated. The printables I showed in the old pictures were in black and white (that's all I had in my printer at the time) and this post has always bothered me because of that. So I thought I'd bring it back today with a little better photography. 🙂
The instructions for this craft are so simple – just layer the marshmallows (load a smaller number of white, then orange, then yellow for those wanted to be accurate) and tie the top of the bag off with your curling ribbon. Then, attach the printable tag!
These are a little bit more of minimalistic treat bags. No need to load it up with lots of different (expensive) candy and toys. These marshmallows are fairly cheap and pretty allergy-friendly for class parties.
Where to Find the Colored Marshmallows
I didn't have a huge issue finding these colored marshmallows, but they were not at the original store I tried. Walmart does carry a store-brand variety of fruit-flavored colored marshmallows, but if you can't find those, Kraft makes a variety as well. Check some of your smaller, local grocery stores if you have any trouble.
Free DIY Printable Halloween Treat Bag Tag
I also have a matching Halloween treat bags tag to go with these goodie bags. It's the perfect accessory for this DIY project, but it could easily be used for any other Halloween treat bag!
The From line is blank so anyone can use it as needed. When printed, it's a bright yellow and orange – perfect to coordinate with a candy corn-themed bag!
I recommend printing these tags on 8.5×11″ cardstock in full color. No need to have them professionally printed for a professional-looking print – a home printer works just fine. (This is the updated version of the home printer I use to get really good quality prints at home.) Each page prints 6 treat bag tags. I like using a straight-edge paper cutter to cut tags like this.

Change it up! You can use any of your favorite treats to make the perfect favor for party guests. Make one of these variations for those little trick or treaters.
- Small Toys
- Candied Popcorn
There are lots of festive classics out there for this project. Get creative!
Different colors of marshmallows would also be a really cute idea. You could do smaller layers of Halloween colors. The pack of marshmallows I bought also had green marshmallows. You could use round bags and make a cute Frankenstein-themed bag by drawing the hair and face on the outside of the bag. You could also do jack-o-lanterns by using only orange marshmallows and, similarly, drawing the jack-o-lantern face on the outside of the bag. The possibilities are endless!
No matter where you're having a Halloween party, these treat bags will be the perfect spooky favor. I hope the kids (and kids at heart) in your life love this little treat this Halloween!
