Introduction

I absolutely love Buffalo Chicken Dip. It's a creamy, cheesy, slightly spicy dip that has all of your favorite flavors of buffalo chicken wings. It tastes like a hot wing, just in dip form!

The amount of hot sauce in this dip recipe can be a little daunting. Don't be concerned about too much spice, especially when you see how much hot sauce I use in the recipe. Yes, there's a little kick, but it's not overpowering.

There are a lot of variations out buffalo chicken dip out there. I've tweaked my version over the years to get it just right for our family. It's one of the recipes in my arsenal that I know is going to please everyone. As a matter of fact, it's the one dip that my husband always requests for game days during football season!

Because this Crock Pot Buffalo Chicken Dip can be made in a slow cooker, it's great for football snacking. We usually leave the slow cooker on warm most of the day, grabbing a chip or two along the way. It stays warm and the Crock Pot makes for the perfect serving dish!

Ingredients

Buffalo Chicken Dip a rich, creamy, slightly spicy mixture of cream cheese, ranch dressing, cheese, chicken, and hot sauce (sometimes buffalo sauce). That's pretty much it. You know how there are a few recipes that everyone has memorized? This is one of mine. The steps are so easy that I could probably rattle this one off in my sleep.

How to Make Buffalo Chicken Dip in the Crock Pot

It doesn't get much simpler than this…

  1. In a large bowl, stir together cream cheese, hot sauce, and ranch dressing with an electric mixer. Fold in chicken and half of the cheddar cheese.
  2. Place this mixture in a Crock Pot slow cooker. Set on low for 4-6 hours.
  3. Thirty minutes before serving, top buffalo chicken dip with remaining cheddar cheese. Allow to melt before serving.
  4. Serve warm with tortilla chips or cool with carrot and celery sticks.

That's really it!

Variations

One of my favorite things about Buffalo Chicken Dip in the crock pot is how easy it is and how readily available the ingredients are. It's also totally ok to use buffalo wing sauce instead of hot sauce if you have it. Blue cheese crumbles and/or blue cheese dressing would be a great substitution for the ranch/cheddar in this recipe.

It's also ok to change up the type of cheese. Pepperjack, blue cheese, or monterey jack would be really yummy alternatives. You could even use flavored cream cheese for even more of a flavor kick.

You can use canned chicken or boneless/skinless chicken breasts for this recipe. I prefer rotisserie chicken that you can usually find at most grocery stores. It's easier than boiling or roasting chicken, not much more expensive, and gives the buffalo chicken dip even more flavor. Plus, you take out the added wait time while the chicken cooks…it's already cooked for you. Simply use the cooked shredded chicken you get from the rotisserie chicken in your dip!

Do I have to use a slow cooker?

You don't have to prep this in the slow cooker! Believe it or not, a Crockpot buffalo chicken dip recipe is easily made without the slow cooker. You have the option to bake, microwave, or even make prep in the Instant Pot.

This dip recipe could be baked in an oven as well. I'd place ingredients in a greased baking dish and bake it for maybe 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees. Then, top with the remaining cheddar cheese from the recipe 5 minutes before pulling from the oven. And, in a pinch, the microwave works too…just melt everything together.

What can I pair with Buffalo Chicken Dip?

SO MANY THINGS! I usually serve my buffalo chicken dip with tortilla chips. However, a lot of people prefer to eat this on something like Ritz crackers or pita chips.

This buffalo chicken dip, when cool, is a wonderful dip for veggies like baby carrots or celery sticks. Leftovers even make an incredible grilled cheese – seriously, try it!

How do I store leftovers?

You can keep this dip in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for 3-4 days after preparation. If it lasts that long. 😉 Make sure the leftovers container is airtight, as this dip has a pretty strong smell and will drift into every other food in your fridge.

This dip can also be frozen. Just store in a freezer bag for up to 6 months. When you're ready to serve, thaw the contents of the bag and rewarm in the microwave. You can top with cheddar cheese and melt if you'd like.
