2017 Blogging Year In Review

The blogging nerd side of my absolutely loves writing this post every year! It's time to take a look back at the highs (and lows) of my little blogging business for 2017.

And yes, I now call it a business because that's what it has become. What you see published on the blog is actually only a little piece of the big Lamberts Lately puzzle now. I produce exclusive content for social media, maintain a thriving email list (of almost 27,000 people now!), produce premium content for sale in cleaning and meal planning, and lots of other little things that combine to give me the absolute best job in the whole wide world. ๐Ÿ™‚ I love what I do! (I talked a little bit more about what I really do each week a few months ago on this post.)

Once again, Lamberts Lately saw phenomenal growth in 2017, and I can attribute most of that growth to one thing: the Instant Pot. I published my first Instant Pot meal planning post in January of last year and it absolutely changed the course of Lamberts Lately for the whole year. You'll see in a second that it was my most popular post of the year by a long shot!

Let's take a look at the growth my little corner of the internet saw for the past year.

Even though pageviews are now only a small piece of the success that a blog has over the year, it's still an important part – you've got to get people in the door if you're going to make them loyal readers! I saw about a 21% growth of pageviews from 2016, which I am thrilled with. You'll also see that I didn't experience a big drop-off after Christmas this year – mostly because I have concentrated on home organization a good bit over the past year, which is popular right after Christmas.

Many people will tell you blogging is dead; while I disagree with that, I do agree that it's harder to get people on your page than it was a few years ago. To grow this much in this climate is great. You can see 2016 and 2015 stats below…

Now let's talk money – sort of. I'm still holding strong to not sharing income reports on the blog. I've been tempted to, but I'm kind of a chicken. ๐Ÿ˜‰ A few months ago, I started a sign-up for a blogging newsletter that will share my income reports each month and talk about the highs and lows of blogging for that month…and then I did nothing with it. Sorry to those who signed up, I just got bogged down with a book launch and moving! I'm hoping to get that started in the next month or two; you can sign up here if you're interested!
What I will share here is that my income saw an awesome growth in 2017 as well, thanks to the introduction of Freezer Meal Boot Camps and a great Journey to Clean launch in December. I'm not 100% done figuring the numbers, but from what I can tell right now, I saw about a 35% income growth from 2016 to 2017. It has required a lot of late nights, but running this business has been so, so worth it!
I attribute most of this growth (both in pageviews and income) to my email list. It is by far, no question my #1 way of connecting with readers. It's a great way to breathe new life into old posts and market useful products to readers as well. Here's a little peek at its growth over the last year.
For the most part, my email list saw a sustained growth for the whole year. I didn't do a clean-out of my list like I did last year, but I am planning on doing that soon, which will take my numbers down a little bit (which is ok – I'd rather have an engaged list than a big list). You can compare it to last year…
