Global warming should be something that a parent talks with a child about on their own terms. It shouldn't be inter-mingled with Santa, Christmas, and Build-A-Bear. I agree with you totally. If a conservative viewpoint tried to be mixed into a Build-A-Bear ad, we'd be crucified for it. Double standard.

Thank you for bringing this cause to light! I linked up to you on my blog as well. Just a few weeks ago, most of the major theories on man-made global warming were openly discredited in a comprehensive study. Not surprisingly, this very important research was kept from almost all mainstream media outlets. . . Someone has to speak the truth. Thank you for doing so.

Rachel, while I respect your right to have an opinion on this, I'm afraid we will just have to agree to disagree. I didn't call specific names, but Al Gore is one of the leaders in making money off of global warming. From 2000-2008, his net worth has jumped from 2 million to 100 million. If there is some other business venture that has done this, let me know, but from everything I have seen it is almost primarily off of global warming speaking engagements, movies, and appearances to discuss the topic.

Let me point you to this graph: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Atmospheric_CO2_with_glaciers_cycles.gif. It shows the variance in atmospheric CO2 as related to climate temps. While it is noted that we are in a peak interglacial period, there have been several times throughout the history of this earth that the temperature has been at a similar level. This is the cyclical change I referred to.

He is extremely, unbelievably respected in the meteorology field, and has been in meteorology for over 30 years. He is a leading voice in the anti-man-made global warming issue, and I believe in his opinions on this matter whole-heartedly.

All of this being said, I have no problem with (and often participate in) activities that will make this world a cleaner, better place. My husband and I use low-watt bulbs and energy star appliances throughout our house, conserve water and power in every way we can, and recycle aluminum and plastic. In my opinion, there's a difference in being green and creating mass hysteria over a very unfounded scientific opinion. I also have a huge problem with the intolerance among the global warming supporters of dissenting opinions on this (namely, Heidi Cullen, who recently said that meteorologists who don't support man-made global warming should have their AMA certification stripped). There are just too many red flags, scientifically and human action-based, for me to buy into this.

Leslie, I am so sorry but I have to disagree with you for reasons that are too long to post in a comment. I agree that political propaganda comes from all angles and needs to stop, but to imply that talk of global warming can be destructive to the mind of a child is like saying that we need to shield our children from hearing about the realities of life. "Many of the "big-wig" global warming supporters are getting paid tons of money for their role in promoting it"? If you're referring to Al Gore, he won a Nobel Peace prize for his efforts to stop global warming. However inconvenient it may be, global warming is happening. This is not a matter of politics, it is a matter of our environment. If human generated greenhouse gas emissions are not significantly reduced, then the climate crisis will reach a breaking point within the next century. CO2 levels are higher in the Antarctic ice than in the last 600,000 years. A cyclical pattern? I really don't think so.

I am with you 100% as well. I have actually had to explain to my oldest two children that, while conservation is a good thing and we should all recycle,etc, the Earth is not going to explode into a fiery mess tomorrow. It's sad that people/companies are putting these fears into our children.
