The Great Diaper & Wipe Show-Off

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Dollar General for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

With the first baby, you feel like you need all of the name brands. We were incredibly loyal to the big-name diapers when Emma Ramey was a newborn. We really had no idea what we were doing, and that includes purchasing diapers...since it was uncharted territory, we stuck with the name brands that so many people recommend (and we had seen so many commercials for).

But with the second? We're a little bit better at knowing where to spend vs. where to save. I feel like, with a few years of baby diapering under my belt, I've discovered a few great ways to save on the high price of diapers. New moms, let me go on and tell you a secret: you don't always need the name brand diapers! There are many great off-brand diapers out there that offer the quality you need without the high price tag.

Recently, I discovered DG Baby Premium Diapers and Wipes (available exclusively at Dollar General) and wanted to see how they stacked up against the name brands. I thought I'd share the results with y'all!

At first glance, there's really very little difference in the three brands I tested: Huggies Little Snugglers, Pampers Sensitive, and DG Baby Premium Diapers. As far as thickness, I'd say the Huggies felt slightly thicker, but not really enough to notice. The Pampers and DG Baby diapers looked incredibly similar on the outside and inside.

Inside, the Pampers and DG Baby again looked almost the same. The Huggies had the extra "blue area" (I'm assuming that was to soak up extra liquid, but I didn't really know if it was for show or not). Again on the inside, I'd say all three were equally as durable.

So what'd I do to test these out? Exactly what you'd think to do - I poured about 2 tablespoons of water in each one and let them sit for about 5 minutes. (Don't ask what I had to google to arrive at putting 2 tablespoons in each one.)

In the meantime, I tested out three different kinds of wipes too!

I tested Huggies Natural Care, Pampers Sensitive Wipes, and DG Baby Premium Softly Scented Wipes. To begin, I did the very scientific study of labeling the bottom of each cup, putting the respective wipe in the cup, and mixing them up. Then, I did the "feel test" on each one to see which I preferred.

I was pleasantly surprised that the DG Baby wipes were the one I choose from the feel test! They were notably thicker than the other two. Of the three, I'd say the Huggies were the softest...they had a little bit of texture to them too, which all veteran moms know can be kind of helpful for hard clean-ups, so I would consider them a close second.

I also did the "stretch test" on each one. The Pampers won this test...after several pretty strong tugs, they didn't break at all. The DG Baby wipes were in 2nd place (they did tear, but only after a strong pull), and the Huggies were in last place on this one...they tore with just a little bit of pressure.

Overall, when price is considered, I'd definitely choose the DG Baby wipes out of the three! They stood up to the big name brands and cost so much less. They've definitely turned me into a customer!

Back to the diapers...

...and, after about 5 minutes, all three barely showed any difference in thickness or wetness on the outside. No doubt that all three would hold up well for a reasonable amount of time on an infant.

I also liked that the DG Baby diapers had the wetness strip on the outside, just like the Pampers. I remember this being so helpful when Emmie was a newborn (i.e. when you have no idea whether or not they have a dirty diaper for the millionth time that day). That feature alone is enough to sway me towards DG Baby diapers!

On the inside, I could tell some difference in wetness by just feeling them. The Pampers and Huggies had very little moisture left to feel, while there was some (not a lot) on the DG Baby diapers. Of the three, I'd say the Huggies brand was the driest (almost completely dry 5 minutes after being wet). Again though, for the price of the DG Baby diapers (almost half the price of either Huggies or Pampers), I don't think it was enough of an issue to not use them!

All in all? I'm a big fan of both the DG Baby Premium Diapers and Wipes! I love to find a product that can compare to the big brands without the big price. This little experiment showed me that DG Baby products can do just that! You can find the full line of DG Baby products at their website.
