I'll be the first to admit - I am so (SO) much less prepared for baby #2. I think I was basically done with preparing for baby by this point with Emmie's pregnancy - not so much this time! So, in the past few weeks, I've really tried to kick it into high gear and wrap up those last few tasks that have to be done before the baby comes.
One of my first priorities was making sure we had all of the baby "stuff" squared away. From the time that we had Emmie, we have saved items that we thought we could use for a second baby one day. Many of the essentials we initially purchased for her were bought with the intent to use for years. We bought in neutral colors and really focused on quality that would last us through two babies.
But, whether you do that or not, there are just certain items that have to be replaced or renewed. So, what does a second-time mom put on her registry?
Gender-Specific Items - This goes without saying...if you're having a baby that is the opposite gender of your first child, there are just certain things that will need to be replaced. I tend to get a lot of clothing as gifts from friends and family anyway, so on my registry, I focused on the less thought-of items...Sleep Sacks, Swaddles, Baby Mittens, Hats, and Socks.
Duplicates - There are certain things that we need for Jackson, but that Emmie is still using. Our sound machine was my #1 in this category - it has been an absolute must-have from the time Emmie was born! We also needed little things to accommodate two car seats, like a mirror and seat protector. Our single stroller isn't going to cut it with two either, so a double stroller went on the registry too!
Disposable Gear - Some things obviously just aren't savable from the first baby. Diapers and wipes come to mind immediately, but I also made sure any medicines we would need were on the registry. This also covers some nursing items, like milk storage bags and nursing pads.
Fun New Gadgets - It's crazy how many new and fun gadgets can come out for babies in just a few years' time! I threw a few of those on the registry, like the Go Pod and Burpy Bibs. And did y'all know about these cool little spoon attachments for squeeze pouches? So smart!
Luckily, there are companies like Babies "R" Us that make it so easy to register for everything you know you need (or didn't know you needed), whether this is your first time as a mom or you're a seasoned veteran!
I used Babies "R" Us' Registry App (you can click the link to download) to make a quick list of the few things that we are going to need for Jackson, and the process could not have been easier.
From the time I downloaded the app, I had a registry set up within minutes. The app asks you a few basic questions about you that allow friends and family to find your registry quickly. Then, you're all set to start selecting your registry items!
I had a few select items that I knew I wanted. To put those on my registry, I searched,...
...found, and clicked the "add to registry" button.
Seriously. That simple.
After I selected the things I knew I needed, I went through Babies R Us' checklist to make sure there wasn't something I was missing. I'd recommend this step, even for seasoned moms...there were definitely a few things I had overlooked!
The registry checklist breaks essentials down into categories, so it's incredibly easy to go through what you need vs. what you already have.
And, just like that, my registry was done! The whole process maybe took 30 minutes to complete... you can't ask for a quicker or more painless experience. From there, you have the in-app option to share your registry with friends and family through email or social media. And it's wonderful to have the app on my phone for quick updates to the registry as we receive items or think of new things to add.
