A Little Talk With My Former Self

Not long ago, I came across the blog post from my first Mother's Day as a mother.  For many women, a first Mother's Day is one of the happiest and most rewarding days, whether pregnant or holding a newborn in their arms.  Many of you know that this wasn't the case for me.

The due date of a child I miscarried early on in the pregnancy was just weeks away, and we had tried unsuccessfully for a year to achieve a healthy pregnancy.  It was an insanely hard day.  I think I had forgotten about how much pain and sadness I was experiencing at that point in my life.

At the end of that blog post, I mentioned that I wanted to go back and have a good talk with the naive woman who thought it would be easy to get/stay pregnant.  Well, now, I'd like to go back and have a talk with the sad, lost version of myself from Mother's Day 2011.  I'd like to give her a big hug and tell her to just hold on for a little while longer; it's almost over.

Mother's Day, 2012

I'd like to show her the blog post from Mother's Day, one year later.  Show her the most adorable chunk of a newborn little girl she's ever laid eyes on.  Tell her it's not always easy... as a matter of fact, being a mother never really is easy.  But it is so, so rewarding, and that if she just gets through the next few months, she is going to be ok.

For those of you that have followed our journey - thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me a channel to document motherhood and share my emotions surrounding its ups and downs.  And for those of you that might be in the same boat as I was on that Mother's Day in 2011 - know that your journey is not over yet; as a matter of fact, it's only starting.

Happy Mother's Day to each of you!
