Ok, there's no doubt that I'm a mom by looking at the way I dress. Long gone are the days of "going out" shirts and skirts that were probably a little too short in the first place. And you can forget heels...ain't happening.
But, I think it's still possible to look cute and look like a mom at the same time! As the season is changing, my wardrobe is changing a little bit too. Here are a few of my current favorites.
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6
If I'm not in workout clothes, I am in jeans this time of the year. I love to add a little pop of color to my outfit with colored jeans...they come in every shade under the sun now! And I am a big fan of skinny jeans that have a little bit of stretch to them...not pajama jeans by any means, but that way, they stay snug-fitting no matter what. As a matter of fact, I was able to comfortably wear pair #5 above when I was 9 months pregnant. They are great!
Ok, who's seen the Jennifer Garner clip from Ellen that's been making its way around the internet this week?
Girlfriend, I feel you. I am in no way pregnant, but I've got a baby bump...her name's Emmie. And I will forever have that baby bump - we'll just hopefully add another name to it one day. As a matter of fact, I've always had a little pudge in my mid-section, even when I was teeny tiny, it's just how I'm made. But I can just blame it on having kids now. :)
So I'm a big fan of looser-fitting shirts that don't look like moo-moos. There's definitely a fine line there. It stays hot here pretty well into November, so I'm also a big fan of lighter shirts with camisoles underneath. That way you look like you're dressing for fall without being too hot!
You will rarely (if ever) see me in an uncomfortable pair of shoes. I just don't do it. I can count on one hand the number of times I've worn heels in the past year...seriously. But I do love to wear comfortable, functional shoes! I am a huge fan of the riding boots that are so popular right now, and a sturdy pair of flats is high on my list.
I am a firm believer in the old Coco Chanel rule: always look in the mirror and take off one accessory before leaving the house. With accessories, less is definitely more. Too many accessories with kids is also kind of a pain in the rear: you're bound to lose at least one to a kid that wants to play with it, and too many things on my hands/arms gets in the way of washing hands, wrangling kids, etc.
That being said, I think 1-2 accessories really makes an outfit! I love to add a little pop of color with a fun scarf or a bright piece of jewelry. I also like for my jewelry to be functional. You'll almost always see me with a watch and my fitbit...I'm hoping for that fun Fitbit holder above for Christmas. (Hint Hint Noah) ;) And, since it is still warm here, I like a lighter scarf this time of the year. I rarely break those out until over into November though.
Happy Fall, y'all!
