The Planner Goes Un-Planned

Let's talk about me from a few years ago, shall we?

I was a planner - totally and entirely.  From work to home, I had a to do list for the day, the month, and the year.  I knew what I had to accomplish, I knew what I had to do to accomplish those tasks.  I worked like a well-oiled machine.  I was steaming along, and when I somehow got knocked off that track, things weren't pretty.  I just didn't function too well if something didn't fit into my plan.

Can we say "Type A?"  Because I was the poster child.

And then, as many of you know, the Fall of 2010 hit me like a ton of bricks.  We started trying for a baby, and my "plan" didn't go as planned at all.  I had one miscarriage, then another...and I had no clue where to go from there.  None.

So this obsessive planner had to, for once, give up her plan.  It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do - trusting that things would work out if I didn't have complete control over them.  And you know what?

They did.

After an awful year of trying for a baby and an amazing 9 months of pregnancy, I was blessed with a perfect, gorgeous, (slightly bigger-than-average) 10 pound, 5 ounce miracle.  And she continues to bless this home every single day she's in it.

In some ways, I think I was being prepared for motherhood by the hardships I had to endure to get there.  Being a parent means you have to let go a little.  Babies are totally unpredictable.  You can have the perfect plan, but what that baby decides is usually what goes.  Parenthood is the most humbling experience of my life, and has taught me so much about who I need to be.  Letting go of that Type-A-ness is part of that.

The new movie "Delivery Man" kind of fits with that same train of thought.  David (Vince Vaughan) faces an unexpected discovery that leads him to finding his lost children and his true self.  It's a really heartwarming and funny story!  Delivery Man will be out on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD March 25, 2014.  You can order now through this site or check out their Facebook page for more information.
