Cutting the Cable When You Have Kids

A few weeks ago, I told y'all about our decision to cut the cable...meaning, instead of paying a monthly subscription for a cable/satellite service, we're utilizing free and reduced-price options for our TV viewing.

I can't say that finding entertainment without a cable service has been hard... there are so many options out there!  Cutting the cable has been a great way for us to maximize our monthly budget.

One of the things I've been most impressed with is the selection of children's programming that is available out there.  I talked about this a little bit in my previous post--we really haven't had a problem finding programming for Emma Ramey.  And recently, I found another wonderful resource that's available whether we're at home or on-the-go!

For the past couple of weeks, we've been using Kidoodle.TV.  This is a subscription service that's available through your computer, tablet and smartphone device.  For just $4.99 a month, you have access to lots of great, retro shows--like The Busy World of Richard Scarry, Paddington Bear, and Strawberry Shortcake, with lots of new shows too!

One of the things I like most about Kidoodle.TV is the parental ability to control what your child is watching.

You have the ability to add profiles for each child (up to 5 profiles), specifying their age and preferences.

You also have the ability to limit their TV time through the app!  Kidoodle.TV automatically enforces the time limit you set.

Once you've set up the app for your child, they have the ability to choose from many different options, including educational programming and classic shows... all of which are tailored just to their profile!

I also love that this is a "kids only" service.  There's no possibility of your child stumbling on programming that he/she shouldn't be watching - everything that is available is kid-friendly and customized just for your child.  There are no ads in the programming either - just age-appropriate, child-focused shows.

Kidoodle.TV is available for streaming on your computer or smart phone, which is perfect if you need a few minutes of entertainment while out of the house.  It's also pretty great if Mom and Dad need an occasional break from children's television on the big TV. :)

You can try a free 2 week trail of Kidoodle.TV here!  Kidoodle.TV is also offering my readers a 25% discount on their service for a 1 year subscription...just enter the code BLOGHER25.  Check out more information on their Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest pages!  You even have the chance to win one of three iPad Minis in March & April here.

Each of you also has a chance to win a $100 Visa Gift Card from Kidoodle.TV and BlogHer!  To enter, answer the following question in a comment on this post:  What devices do your kids use? Do they have their own or share with the whole family?
