Hardy Puppy's Birthday

My Hardy puppy was FIVE years old yesterday! Just because he has taken second place to a certain sweet-potato-loving little sister lately...
 
 
... doesn't mean we're not going to celebrate his birthday. :) 
 
Here's a little update on what he's up to at five years old! 
 
 
 -He sleeps - lots. I'd say a solid 18-20 hours a day. I never really realized this until I was home with him all the time! 
 
-He is starting to warm up to his little sister. He loves when she "chases" him around (and she loves it too...she just giggles and giggles!). 
 
 -He LOVES walks. Lives for them. He's started getting really upset when Emma Ramey and I go for a walk without him. I just can't handle a leash and a stroller though! 
 
 -We've started bribing him into being a good big brother. If he does something sweet with Emma Ramey, we look at him and say, "What do good big brothers get?" He knows to go to his treat bowl.  No shame. 
 
-He has an energy spurt maybe once every 2-3 days where he goes crazy and runs around the house.  Besides that, he is either asleep, begging for food, or moving places to go back to sleep.
-He KNOWS when 5:00 is (his dinner time).  Every single day.  Starting at about 4:30, he gets excited whenever I go into the kitchen.
-He is under the impression he can sleep on our bed and take up half the bed.  Please keep in mind we have a king sized bed.  He pushes us throughout the night until both of us are on half and he has half.

 
 
Begging for food as I cooked...this is his usual perch while I'm cooking. 
 
 
We were laying on the bed yesterday morning, and Emma Ramey started kicking him in a spot on his back that he apparently liked...he gave us the "that feels good" head raise. :)
Finally getting his cake!

Yes, I made him a cake!  It's something I've done every year on his birthday.  



I kind of made up my own recipe yesterday...here's what it is in case you're wondering!
Puppy Cake
Ingredients
1c flour
1/2c oil
1 jar meat-flavored baby food
1 egg
2 tbsp. peanut butter
1 tsp. baking powder
6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 8oz. block cream cheese

Directions
Mix everything together except for half the bacon and the cream cheese.  Bake in a loaf pan for 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees.
Cool.  Once cooled, cut the cake in half to make 2 layers.  Frost one layer with the cream cheese, stack the other layer on top, and frost it too.  Sprinkle rest of bacon on top.
 
(It's crumbly, and will probably make a little bit of a mess...but you're serving it to a dog.  They don't care.)
 
 
He clearly liked it.
My sweet guy had a fantastic first birthday as a big brother!
