It seems like things are getting back to their "new normal" slowly, but surely. Each day seems a little bit less chaotic, and a little bit more calm.
We were out of school again today. The big issue right now is figuring out bus routes. Not only are many of the roads normally traveled by the buses impassible still, but a lot of the kids aren't at their homes (or their homes aren't there). So they spent much of the day getting that together...I'm thankful that we didn't try to go back too early, before the logistics of everything were figured out. That being said, I'm ready to see my kiddos!!!
We will be back in tomorrow morning. Among the many things I have y'all praying for right now, will you shoot up a quick prayer tonight that I know what to do/say tomorrow? I'm really at a loss, and have no idea what I'm going to say to them.
I've spent a good bit of the day either resting or rounding up donations. I just needed to "fill my tank" for the rest of this week, because it's going to be a rough one.
These came in the mail yesterday. I couldn't for the life of me figure out where they came from - I hadn't ordered them or put my name in for a sample, and they were straight from Similac. Then Noah figured it out - we're supposed to be having a baby right now. I thought we took our name off of all of the prenatal lists, but I guess this one slipped through. But WHAT A BLESSING that they came right now, when baby products are in such need. That prompted this...
I donated all of the diapers/wipes in my baby closet today. I've been buying diapers when I saw them on sale since before we even started trying, so I had quite a collection. I'm going to be honest here - it was hard to part with these. But there is just absolutely no sense in these sitting in that closet for at least 9 more months when there are so many people in this city that need them. So off they went.
(spot the Hardy puppy...)
This picture isn't great, but this is every box of donations YOU GUYS has sent to my house!!!
HOW MUCH DO YOU ROCK???
I know there are still some coming in too. Among these boxes are many baby/childrens' clothes, brand new backpacks, more baby products, and adult clothes!! I am going to wait a few days to take these...there are still more shipments coming in, and most of the collection sites have gotten so many pieces of clothing that they haven't had time to sort them.
If you'd like to donate still, many places around Alabama have drop-off sites...this is a great place to see if your area has one. If not, you're still welcome to send it to me! Just email me for my information.
The things that are most in need right now are...
- batteries (size D were most in need a few days ago, but I don't know about now)
- gas cans
- any baby products (especially newborn/size 1 diapers)
- Sam's Club sized cans of food
- Styrofoam to-go plates (the kind that are sectioned off)
- underwear (new, of course :)) - women's bras are also needed
If you feel led to donate to my students personally, they are in need of size 6x, 7, and 8 girls' clothes. They have siblings that need infant (boys), size 5 (boys), and junior girls size 8.
I'll leave you guys with this. I didn't watch it, but Governor Bentley had a press conference in Tuscaloosa late this afternoon. Just as it was ending, this came out.
Apparently it was much more brilliant at the most damaged areas...this is at my house, about 5 miles away.
GOD IS STILL IN THIS TOWN!!!
