This is something I've gotten VERY interested in lately! Now, with the kind of grocery shopping I do, it is usually actually cheaper to buy the pre-made stuff. That doesn't mean it is healthier though! Here are a few ideas I've gotten for making your own food/cleaning supplies:
-This website is VERY interesting. I've mentioned it on here before. Now, let me say that I DON'T agree with a lot of the things she does to cut corners in her family. However, she does have a couple of good ideas for making usually store-bought items! Check out her recipes on the sidebar for things like tortillas and taco seasoning.
-I've started making a lot of bread items at home recently. Pancakes are one of my favorite recipes. SO much cheaper if you just use the basics (flour, milk, eggs, etc.) rather than pre-made mix. Pizza dough, rolls, and biscuits are also the same way - take a little bit more effort, but a lot less expensive than store-bought mix. Just google a recipe, or use allrecipes...shows great ideas!
-I have also mentioned my LOVE of using vinegar as a cleaner. It is so super easy (and cheap!) to make, and can be used as a disinfectant. It is also super powerful on pretty much any surface in your house, and safer than breathing in fumes. I use 1 part vinegar to 1 part water. Try it! Now, I'll admit, when you first use it it smells kind of strong, but that goes away after like 5 minutes. It's so worth it!
I LOVE seeing new ideas in this area...let me see what you've got! :)
