Just Workin' On My Fitness

I am trying to start getting in shape again. Not that I am obese or anything, but you know how everyone has that time in their life when they look back and think of how in shape they were?

I want that.

I've all but given up on the food thing. I'll tell you one thing - I am obsessed with food. I love it. I think about it. I get excited when I'm going to have a good meal.

So I'm not cutting out food, because I just refuse to do so. That's no way to live life. My trick? Portion control.

I love this website. This is how I make sure I'm in my calorie range for the day. I used to do Weight Watchers religiously, but the whole $17 a month thing just to use their website got old. This does just about the same thing, just not in points (it's in the good old fashioned calories/fat/carbs way). There's a ton of food choices on there, it keeps up with your exercise too, and the best part is it's free!

Oh, and one thing I've learned about watching calories too much - DON'T DO IT. If you get below a certain level of calories a day for a consistent amount of time (like a couple of weeks or more), your body goes into survival mode and your metabolism nosedives. You won't lose any weight, and you'll still be miserable and hungry! That's why I use Sparkpeople - because it tells you the minimum as well as the maximum of calories you need to have in a day.

So I'm not really changing my habits that much - just drinking a lot of water, watching portions, working out (a lot). I've got the time to work out right now, so I am. We're members of PARA here in Tuscaloosa, so we get to use their gym facilities for REALLY cheap (like $125 a year for both of us). So I figure, I've got it to use, why not? I'm going there three times a week, and two more days a week I'm on this thing:

God Bless the Wii Fit. I love it...it makes working out fun! I've heard there's a new Wii exercise game, but I'm not fond of spending money when I don't have to and my little Wii Fit works just fine, thank-you-very-much.

Now if I can just stay away from the AWESOME red velvet chess cake squares I bought this weekend, I'll be in business!

I too am trying to get into better shape. I love food too, so cutting it out isn't going to happen. Your right, portion sizes, water, and exercise. Now if my 30 Day Shred DVD will just get here...lol.

I am totally with you on loving food- haha don't you hate that?! Ugh- it is a pain!! I don't know how some people can "eat to live" or whatever!! More like "live to eat" for me! Ok, I sound HUGE...hahaha ;)

My mom is dying to get a Wii fit- is it really great exercise?! I just feel like I have to go to the gym to really feel like I have worked out!

Oh I love food, too. And -- unfortunately, it shows right now. :( But -- I'm doing something about it. Good luck. We've got the Wii Fit, and I hardly get on it b/c the oldest son is playing Legos or some other game. But -- luckily we've got the equipment we need at the house...just have to use it. :)

I used to use Sparkpeople. I may have to check it out again. Thanks for the reminder. :)

We are totally on the same page right now. I haven't been to the gym in 2 weeks and I am not feeling great about myself. I am getting back to it tonight.

Good luck with our fitness!!!! :)
